Commemorative Brick

Leave Your Legacy

It’s our honor to invite you on a new, exciting journey here at the National Civil Rights Museum—our “Become the Dream” renovation project. Become the Dream offers you a unique opportunity to carry forward the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and, at the same time, create your own lasting legacy. Today, consider leaving your mark on the Museum’s campus with one of the commemorative bricks available below in honor or memory of you or your loved ones, or simply make a gift in support of the campaign or the Museum’s everyday expenses.

Commemorate your visit to the Museum or recognize a loved one or community leader with a special brick in the courtyard of the Lorraine Motel. The National Civil Rights Museum’s commemorative brick program provides supporters the opportunity to forever connect their legacy with that of history’s brightest civil rights leaders.

Where do we go from here?

The renovation of the Legacy Building and Founders Park aims to achieve the following strategic objectives:

Educate and Inspire: By telling the post-1968 story of the civil rights movement, the Museum will ignite curiosity and empower visitors about ongoing struggles and achievements, motivating the next generation of dreamers and activists.

Preserve and Honor: The renovation will safeguard the legacy of Dr. King and other civil rights leaders, ensuring that their contributions are cherished and celebrated.

Engage the Community: The BlueCross Healthy Place at Founders Park will activate community involvement by providing a space for reflection, healing, and community engagement, fostering its tradition as a site for non-violent protest and reconciliation.

Catalyze Social Change: The exhibitions and programs will challenge visitors to consider their role in advancing justice and equality in their own communities, sparking action and driving meaningful society change.

“So even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal.’ I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its Governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, one day right there in Alabama little Black boys and Black girls will be able to join hands with little White boys and White girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today.”
